Chocolate chips cookies are the staple of simplicity in the baking world. Most people who have baked before have made them, either from scratch or use a store bought mix. However, they take a lot of work to truly perfect in their color, texture and flavor. Because they are so iconic, people expect a well rounded and consistent cookie. When I was younger, I used to melt the butter way to much, causing my cookies to merge together in the oven, creating one giant mess. I even named it "cookie smush"! Here's a very blurry picture of them:

Even now, after I've been baking regurally for five years, I still mess up my chocolate chip cookies sometimes. So, here the recipe that I find helps me get as close to perfect cookies as I can. Hope you enjoy! Disclaimer: this recipe is based of off one by Rosanna Pansino in her Nerdy Nummies cook book.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
2 sticks of unsalted butter
3/4 cup of brown sugar
3/4 cup of white sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
As many semi-sweet chocolate chips as your heart desires
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Get the butter out of the fridge to soften it for later.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda and salt with a fork or whisk.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. For a successful blend, use a electric mixer.
Add your eggs one at a time.
Add the vanilla extract.
Gradually add your flour in increments of 4.
Once your dough has come together, add your chocolate chips. They is no such thing as too many chocolate chips. Save about a third of a cup on the side.
Prepare your baking sheets. Use baking spray, parchment paper or reusable silicon mats to grease.
With a large spoon, make balls of dough and place them 2 inches apart on the sheet.
For a little extra love, add those leftover chocolate chips to the top of the cookie dough balls. This helps them achieve that bakery style look.
Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes, depending on the size of your cookie.
Once they come out, sprinkle with a little sea salt for added flavor and decoration. (Optional)
Best served warm, with your choice of milk or ice cream.
